On Saturday, Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota received the second highest percentage of possible points in the modern era of voting to capture the 80th Heisman Trophy award. The following day, the New York Post ran a headline encouraging the Jets to “Suck for the Duck.”
With Geno Smith and Michael Vick taking the majority of snaps for the Jets this season, there’s little wonder why the NY Post (and fans) have their eyes set on Mariota. Vick’s best days are clearly behind him and despite Smith saying he’s shown flashes of being a Pro Bowl level quarterback, there probably aren’t many who believe him.
Mariota completed 68 percent of his passes for 3,783 yards and 38 touchdowns, with just two interceptions, this season for Oregon. He also rushed for 669 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The Jets came into the weekend firmly in the mix for the top pick in next year’s NFL Draft with a 2-11 record. They’re tied with the Buccaneers, Titans, Jaguars, and Raiders.
