Report: Ohio State expecting Chase Young to get 4-game suspension

The Ohio State Buckeyes are bracing for Chase Young to be handed a significant penalty for receiving a loan in 2018, according to a report.

Sources told ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit that the Buckeyes expect Young to be suspended for four games for a violation of NCAA rules. The school is hopeful, however, that they will be able to get the length of the suspension reduced on appeal.

The length of the suspension is said to be tied to the size of the loan Young received. He has since repaid that loan.

Young will already be sitting out Saturday’s game against Maryland. After that, the Buckeyes have three regular season games left, including huge matchups with Penn State and Michigan in their final two games.

How hard the NCAA comes down on Young is dependent on some of the finer details of the case. What we know from one report is that Young claims he received a loan to fly his girlfriend to the Rose Bowl. There are conflicting reports regarding who loaned Young the money. If it was a family friend, that’s probably not hugely serious. If it was an agent, the NCAA will likely throw the book at him, and it could end his college career.

Young leads the FBS with 13.5 sacks this season. He’ll be a top pick in April’s NFL Draft regardless of how this ruling plays out for him.
