Report: Texas Tech could fire Kliff Kingsbury, hire Brent Venables
Texas Tech has long been disappointed with the lack of progress under Kliff Kingsbury and could decide to make a change. One reporter thinks the Red Raiders are ready to make a change, and he believes they have their eye on a replacement.
The Austin American-Statesman’s Kirk Bohls reported on Twitter that he expects Kingsbury to be fired and Clemson DC Brent Venables may replace him.
I'll be very surprised if Kliff Kingsbury survives this season at Texas Tech. Source tells me if he's fired, Tech will look seriously at Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables.

Bohls believes the connections between Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt and Venables could play a role in such a move.
Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt and Brent Venables were teammates and roommates while playing football at Kansas State.

Venables, 47, has been Clemson’s defensive coordinator since 2012. The chance to be a head coach at a Big 12 school could be enticing.
Kingsbury has been the head coach at Texas Tech since 2013. He went 8-5 and won his bowl game in his first season. He hasn’t topped seven wins in a season since then nor has he won another bowl game. The 5-6 Red Raiders are in danger of their third losing season in a row under Kingsbury and need to beat Baylor on Saturday to avoid that. Kingsbury has been on the hot seat since two years ago.
