Daniel Jones has had a disappointing career with the New York Giants since he was drafted in the first round five years ago, and one prominent reporter does not think the quarterback will be given another opportunity to change that.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter made a big prediction about Jones during a Tuesday appearance on the “Unsportsmanlike” radio show with Evan Cohen, Chris Canty and Michelle Smallmon. Schefter said he believes Jones has played his last snap for the Giants.

“The quarterback situation, which has come up there, I would guess that we don’t see Daniel Jones play another down for the Giants,” Schefter said. “That would be my guess right now, because Brian Daboll’s tone (on Monday) was different than it was in other weeks. It was always, ‘Daniel Jones is our starter, Daniel Jones is our starter, Daniel Jones is our starter.’ And then (Monday), ‘We’re evaluating everything.'”

The Giants fell to 2-8 with their 20-17 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Jones was 22/37 for 190 yards, no touchdowns and 2 interceptions in the game. Daboll seemed to throw Jones under the bus during an interview after the first quarter.

Then on Monday, Daboll refused to say Jones will remain the Giants’ starting quarterback going forward. That was noteworthy because the coach repeatedly stuck by Jones when the former Duke star struggled throughout the first half of the season.

The Giants still owe Jones the remainder of $35.5 million guaranteed salary for this season. But Schefter noted that New York also has a serious financial incentive to bench Jones now that the team has fallen out of contention once again.
