Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs are moving on to the Divisional Round of the playoffs after beating the Miami Dolphins 26-7 in freezing conditions at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. on Saturday night. The weather conditions for the game were miserable; the temperature at kickoff was tied for the fourth-lowest in NFL history (-4 degrees). Reid believes that the Chiefs’ strategy given the conditions likely surprised Miami.

Reid credited Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for allowing the offense to throw the ball so much in the weather.

“Patrick had a nice day. I don’t think (the Dolphins) anticipated us throwing the ball as much as we did. A lot of quarterbacks can’t do that in this type of weather,” Reid said after the game.

Mahomes went 23/41 for 262 yards and a touchdown pass. He also rushed for 41 yards.

The Chiefs’ offense was pretty productive, and Mahomes’ passing numbers were pretty normal compared to games played in better weather. Kansas City’s offense had 409 total yards compared to 264 yards for the Dolphins.

Now Kansas City will await the outcome of Monday’s Steelers-Bills game to learn where they will play next. The weather likely won’t be as bad for that game, but it might not make much of a difference to Mahomes.
