Antonio Brown files for bankruptcy

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Antonio Brown is in dire straits financially, according to a filing in federal bankruptcy court.

Brown filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday, according to Patrick Tine of the Times Union. In his filing, Brown claimed to owe nearly $3 million to at least eight creditors, while simultaneously claiming $50,000 or less in assets.

A significant amount of the money Brown owes is due to his widespread legal problems. In 2022, he was ordered to pay $1.2 million in damages to a truck driver he allegedly assaulted, which is claimed as one of his debts in his new filing. There are also multiple instances of creditors who say they were not paid for services they performed for Brown, as well as at least three six-figure civil judgments against him.

Brown is only 35 and could probably still be playing in the NFL if he had been able to control his behavior. He last played in the league in 2021, but his career ended when he stormed off the field mid-game while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since then, he has dealt with numerous legal issues, including an arrest over unpaid child support, and has spent an absurd amount of time getting in bizarre social media beefs. He also purchased an arena football team, which he ran into the ground in epic fashion.

It is hard to see where Brown is going to find any real income these days. His fall from grace is remarkable, especially when you consider that he earned roughly $80 million over the course of his playing career.
