Antonio Cromartie blasts Adam Gase, says Jets should hire Eric Bieniemy

Adam Gase

Antonio Cromartie sounds glad that he no longer plays for the New York Jets, because the former NFL cornerback is clearly not a big fan of Adam Gase.

Cromartie spoke with TMZ at an event in Miami this week, and the four-time Pro Bowler was critical of the way Gase has handled star running back Le’Veon Bell.

“When you don’t give your running back the ball in the second half of a game, it shows that you’re trying to say you don’t need him,” Cromartie said. “I think Le’Veon Bell’s a great running back and he’s gonna do the things he needs to do, whether it’s with the Jets or somebody else. He just needs to be with somebody who respects him as a player and respects what he can do.”

When asked if he sees Gase having a future with the Jets, Cromartie responded “not at all.” He said he believes Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy deserves a shot at the job.

“I’d go get Eric Bienemy,” Cromartie said. “He’s had seven interviews for head coaching jobs and he’s 0-for-7 right now, so hopefully within the next year or so he gets one.”

Bieniemy not landing a head coaching job this offseason was a great source of frustration for black coaches around the NFL. He will likely be a top candidate during the next hiring period after next season, and he deserves a shot at a head coaching job given the success he has had in Kansas City.

While the Jets have admitted they will listen to trade inquiries for Bell this offseason, the running back recently downplayed any issues he had with Gase.
