Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland was arrested on multiple charges Tuesday night, and it turns out he was already in some hot water with the NFL prior to that incident.
Breeland is facing a four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network report. Breeland is currently in the process of appealing the suspension.
#Chiefs CB Bashaud Breeland — who was arrested Tuesday on multiple charges, including marijuana possession — was already facing a four-game suspension for a separate violation of the substance-abuse policy, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo. Breeland is appealing.

Garafolo noted that the new collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and NFL Players Association calls for significantly reduced penalties for substance abuse violations, so that could work in Breeland’s favor. However, the 28-year-old’s arrest may create further issues.
Breeland is facing charges of resisting arrest, having alcohol in a motor vehicle with the seal broken, having an open container of beer or wine in a motor vehicle, possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana or 10 grams of hash and driving without a license. His attorneys indicated in a statement on Wednesday that unnecessary force may have been used by police.
