Bears fire Marc Trestman, clean house
The Chicago Bears fired head coach Marc Trestman on Monday morning, and that was only the beginning.
In addition to Trestman, the Bears have also decided to part ways with general manager Phil Emery and offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer. None of the moves should come as a surprise.
The Bears went 5-11 this season — their worst record since 2004 — and missed the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season. Ownership reportedly decided to fire Trestman a few weeks back and there was no way Kromer was going to keep his job after the backlash that followed his public takedown of Jay Cutler.
Trestman is more likely to find a job as an offensive coordinator than a head coach in the NFL next season.
The real mystery here involves Cutler. While at least one team is reportedly interested in acquiring the 31-year-old quarterback and his hefty contract, the Bears may decide to keep Cutler around for another season. It’s possible he wasn’t getting along with Trestman and Kromer.
