The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to hire Dirk Koetter as their next head coach.
The Bucs and Koetter, their offensive coordinator, are closing in on a deal, according to Adam Schefter and other reporters.
This has been the expected outcome from the time Lovie Smith was surprisingly let go last week.

Koetter, 56, was receiving interest from teams like the Eagles and 49ers regarding their head coaching vacancies. Rather than risk losing him and stunting Jameis Winston’s development as a quarterback, Tampa Bay apparently has opted for consistency and is promoting Koetter. This move will allow Winston, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 draft, to continue with the same offensive system.
Koetter has a rich coaching background. He had stints as a head coach at Boise State and Arizona State, though he was only 40-34 at ASU. He has been an offensive coordinator in the NFL since 2007, first with the Jaguars and then the Falcons and now Bucs.
