Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward was not necessarily thrilled with his first regular season start at his new home stadium.
Ward suggested he had some issues with the turf at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tn. during Sunday’s 33-19 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. On one particular play, Ward slipped on the turf, leading to a sack and game-changing fumble.

Ward pointed out that the Titans practice on grass, and questioned why they don’t play on it as well.
“We practice on grass. Why don’t we play on grass?” Ward said.

Nissan Stadium was a grass field until 2023, when the Titans replaced it with synthetic turf. At the time, it was suggested that Nashville’s climate made it difficult to maintain a consistently good grass surface year-round.
The NFL has an even split between stadiums that use grass and ones that use some sort of turf. The turf ones can at times be controversial, as some have argued that the artificial surfaces are slicker and cause more injuries. One stadium in particular is notorious for complaints about its turf.
The Titans are currently building a new 60,000-seat stadium that is slated to open in 2027. The plan is for it to have a turf field, which probably will not be welcome news to Ward.
