Carson Wentz reportedly could be cleared for contact this week
Carson Wentz could be cleared for contact as early as this week, according to a report.
Wentz has been recovering from a torn ACL and LCL he suffered against the Rams in December last year. The Philadelphia Eagles have not given a clear timetable about their expectation for his return, though it seems the QB is getting closer.
And although Wentz could be cleared for contact soon, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport emphasized that the Eagles are stressing caution when it comes to their handling of the QB. The team views Wentz as their franchise quarterback and wants to make sure he is fully healed before having him play in a game again. That’s why he might not step in to start even after being cleared for contact.
The Eagles have Nick Foles under contract and have confidence in their backup. He won Super Bowl MVP last season and helped the team get off to a 1-0 start with a win over Atlanta in the opener. If he can keep winning, that will relieve some of the pressure the team might otherwise face to get Wentz back in the lineup.
