Colts owner Jim Irsay has harsh comments about Carson Wentz
The Indianapolis Colts made a significant upgrade this offseason when they went from Carson Wentz to Matt Ryan. Very few people are happier about that than owner Jim Irsay.
Irsay was asked on Tuesday about the Colts’ decision to move on from Wentz. He said it was “very obvious” a change was needed. He then thanked “the Football Gods” for presenting Indy with an opportunity to acquire Matt Ryan.
On the Wentz decision, Irsay said: "It's just, for us, it was just it was something that we had to move away from as a franchise — it was very obvious."
As for Matt Ryan: "Extremely grateful to the football Gods, so to speak, (regarding) where we were compared to where we are."

Wentz played poorly down the stretch for the Colts last season. All they had to do was win one of their final two games to make the playoffs, and they were huge favorites in both. As he has done many times in the past, Wentz failed to perform in the biggest spots.
That clearly angered Irsay, who probably felt his team had already secured a spot in the postseason. There have been numerous reports that Irsay was furious over Wentz’s play and was not shy about showing it. He may have even taken a shot at the QB with a tweet after the season.
Ryan is certainly an upgrade from Wentz, but he will turn 37 this offseason and is starting fresh in a totally new offense. It’s not a given that the Colts will reach the playoffs in 2022. Obviously, Irsay likes their chances more now than he did when Wentz was still in Indy.
