Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer makes bold statement

Brian Schottenheimer has been dripping with confidence since he was named the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and he did not shy away from talking about his Super Bowl aspirations at the start of training camp on Monday.

When Schottenheimer was promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach in January, he said his only objective with the Cowboys is to win a Super Bowl. Schottenheimer said his father, late former NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer, instilled that mindset in him from a young age.

On Monday, Schottenheimer stopped just barely short of guaranteeing that he will win a Super Bowl as the head coach in Dallas. The 51-year-old said he has already thought about dedicating a championship ring to his father when that happens.

“The hunger I have now is for the young men in that locker room, it’s for the Joneses. When we get a Super Bowl, my dad will get a ring, I promise you that,” Schottenheimer told reporters.

Schottenheimer made an equally confident statement last month, when he expressed confidence that his coaching staff is going to eventually be “raided” because of the success the Cowboys are going to have.

“We’re gonna win. And when we win, our coaching staff is going to get raided,” Schottenheimer said in June. “People are going to come after our coaches, because we’re gonna win.”

The Cowboys have not advanced past the Divisional Round of the playoffs since they last won a Super Bowl in 1995. Schottenheimer has vowed to change that. Some have questioned his approach and whether he is setting himself up for criticism.

Jerry Jones’ decision to hire Schottenheimer was not well received by some franchise icons, but the first-time head coach seems determined to prove he is up to the task.
