Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn is tasked with the difficult job of picking up a team that should have won the Super Bowl, but failed to do so.
As such, he has a new slogan for his team in 2017: “Embrace the Suck.” It’s a reference to all the work the team will have to do to return to the summit and scale it this time.
“Eat a crap sandwich with a smile,” Quinn explained, via Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “This is going to be hard. Your choice: It’s a victim’s mentality or a warrior mentality. It’s like, ‘I know this run is going to be long, and it’s going to be really hard. But here I go again.'”
In addition to the new slogan, Quinn has added depth to a defense that he feels simply ran out of gas late in the loss to the New England Patriots.
“The guys were gassed,” Quinn admitted. “We had never played in the 90s (snap count). We were not traumatized at all. You could tell there was nothing left in the tank. They would come to the sideline in the fourth quarter and nobody was talking because there was nothing left.”
Quinn seems to be recovering well from the loss. He’s spoken to some kindred spirits and looks ready to go again with high expectations.
