Interesting detail emerges about Daniel Jones being benched
Daniel Jones has lost his starting job with the New York Giants, and the quarterback may not even be an injury away from seeing the field again.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed on Monday that Tommy DeVito will start over Jones against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12. Daboll also revealed that Jones has been demoted to third string, as the coach said Drew Lock will be the backup behind DeVito.
“We’re making a quarterback switch here from Daniel, and we’re gonna go with Tommy. … Drew will be the backup,” Daboll said. “We’ll continue to work with him. He’s been nothing but a pro, as was Daniel. It’s never an easy conversation to have with the players, but we felt like this was a necessary move for us.”

With Jones now No. 3 on the depth chart, it is probably safe to assume the former first-rounder has played his last snap for the Giants.
The Giants still owe Jones the remainder of his $35.5 million guaranteed salary for this season. While they cannot avoid paying that money, they still have a serious financial incentive to keep Jones on the bench for the remainder of the year.
Jones has completed 63.3% of his passes this season for 2,070 yards, 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. If Jones has made his last start for the Giants, he will finish with a record of 22-36-1 with the team.
