Danny Amendola held out of practice with concussion

The New England Patriots really missed Julian Edelman in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs, and they can ill afford to lose another member of their wide receiver corps. Unfortunately, there’s a chance Danny Amendola could be held out in Week 2.

Amendola did not practice on Wednesday after he suffered a concussion in the first half of last Thursday’s loss.

Amendola, who has built up a level of trust with Tom Brady over the past several seasons, is likely still in the NFL’s concussion protocol. If he misses practice again on Thursday, that would be a sign that he might not be able to suit up against the New Orleans Saints this weekend.

In less than two quarters against Kansas City, Amendola drew seven targets and logged six catches for 100 yards. It appeared obvious he was going to pick up much of the slack in Edelman’s absence, and New England’s offense got much worse after he left the game. The Patriots are deep at the wide receiver position, but Brandin Cooks has played just one regular season game with Brady. Losing Amendola for a game or more would create another big obstacle for the Pats.
