RB Doug Martin could have big role in Raiders’ offense
The Oakland Raiders have a well-known running back in Marshawn Lynch, but it could be another who ends up doing big things for them: Doug Martin.
The Raiders signed Martin over the offseason after he was released by Tampa Bay. The former All-Pro back has apparently been looking good at OTAs, which has left the Raiders’ coaching staff raving about him.
“Doug has really jumped out in this camp,” Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Tuesday, via The Athletic’s Vic Tafur. “His quickness, his ability to pick up the offense and what we’ve given him. That’s been very encouraging.
“He really has a fresh set of legs.”
Tafur says there is talk of Martin pushing Lynch of a lot of carries this season.
Martin only played in 11 games last season because he served a suspension and eight the year before that. He has dealt with personal problems and sought treatment. But the Raiders seem to think for now that Martin could get back to the form he showed in 2012 and 2015 when he rushed for over 1,400 yards each season.
