Eagles coach will not say if Alshon Jeffery will be ready Week 1

Alshon Jeffery

Alshon Jeffery remains on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery, and he is running out of time to be cleared before Week 1. Still, Eagles coach Doug Pederson is not ready to commit to Jeffery’s status one way or the other.

On Tuesday, Pederson told reporters Jeffery has been “progressing well,” but he would not say if the star receiver will be cleared by Week 1.

Jeffery played through a torn rotator cuff all of last season and still managed to catch nine touchdowns in the regular season and another three in the playoffs. The Eagles have the depth needed to overcome him missing some time, but they are hoping he doesn’t have to begin the season on PUP and be ruled out for a minimum of six games.

The Eagles could already be without Carson Wentz for Week 1, as the quarterback has yet to be fully cleared for contact following his knee surgery. One reporter seems to think Wentz is going to miss some time, so the defending Super Bowl champs could be short-handed to start the 2018 season.
