Eli Manning talks about possibly losing his starting job
The New York Giants are clearly in need of making a change at quarterback, and there have been some questions about whether they could finally do that during their Week 9 bye. If that does happen, Eli Manning sounds prepared for it.
Manning was asked on Monday about the possibility of head coach Pat Shurmur giving rookie fourth-round pick Kyle Lauletta a chance to start in Week 10. He said he wants and expects to remain the team’s starter, but he will understand if Shurmur goes in a different direction.
Asked if he expects to be the Giants QB after the bye week, Eli Manning said “I hope so.” But how would he feel if he’s asked to step aside so rookie Kyle Lauletta could play?

While the Giants’ struggles on offense aren’t all Manning’s fault, he has been terrible this year and looks like he has very little left in the tank. Shurmur has tried to stand behind him as long as possible, but the coach finally did not rule out making a change after New York scored just 13 points in a loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
Even if the Giants want to try to trade Manning before Tuesday’s deadline, it does not sound like that will be possible. They’re not going to make the playoffs, so the only reason to keep Manning in the starting lineup at this point is loyalty. That only goes so far in the NFL.
