The Green Bay Packers will need a new quarterbacks coach, and one ESPN analyst would love to fill the position.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur on Tuesday revealed that Tom Clements is retiring. The 71-year-old has coached with the Packers over two separate stints, dating from 2006-2016, and 2022-2024. He has worked as the quarterbacks coach for Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love.
One Packers fan noted via social media Tuesday that the team needed a new quarterbacks coach and suggested ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky should have interest.
Orlovsky wrote that holding that job “would be an honor.”

Orlovsky, 41, was a star quarterback in college at UConn and went on to have a long NFL career, mostly as a backup. He became an ESPN analyst in 2017 and has developed into one of their prominent NFL voices.
Orlovsky said last year that he received interest for coaching positions during that hiring cycle, though he elected to remain at ESPN. The thought of him becoming the next Packers quarterbacks coach wouldn’t be crazy.
Orlovsky and LaFleur were part of the Los Angeles Rams in 2017 when Orlovsky was in training camp with the team and LaFleur was the offensive coordinator. In 2023, Orlovsky said that he had had conversations with LaFleur about the Packers’ quarterbacks coach position.
“I’ve had conversations with Matt about it, of going out there. There’s been conversations this offseason. It’ll always be something that I’ve been interested in. Right now, I love being at ESPN. I love being able to get to do what I do and I’m super thankful for that,” Orlovsky said in June 2023.
Will Orlovsky finally be ready to leave ESPN behind to begin a coaching career? Time will tell.
