Extent of Saquon Barkley’s ankle injury revealed
Saquon Barkley suffered an ankle injury late in the New York Giants’ comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and the star running back is expected to miss some time.
Barkley underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed he has a sprained ankle, according to multiple reports. ESPN’s Adam Schefter says Barkley is expected to be out for three weeks.
An MRI showed that Giants’ RB Saquon Barkley suffered an “ordinary” ankle sprain that now is expected to sideline him three weeks, per source.

The Giants have a quick turnaround with a game against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, so it would be a shock if Barkley plays in that contest. He may miss a game or two after that as well.
Barkley was injured late in the fourth quarter when his leg bent awkwardly underneath him on a tackle. He played a big role in helping New York come back from a 28-7 deficit in Arizona. He finished with 92 total scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. Barkley also had some crucial runs down the stretch that helped get the Giants into position for a game-winning field goal.
The Giants were shut out by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 and held scoreless by the Cardinals in the first half on Sunday. Their offense will face even more challenges if Barkley misses multiple games.
