Genie Bouchard and her Twitter date John Goehrke to attend Super Bowl

Genie Bouchard Wimbledon

Genie Bouchard was so confident in the Patriots not coming back to beat the Falcons in the Super Bowl last year that she agreed to a relatively high-stakes bet with one of her Twitter followers. As it turns out, Tom Brady’s most remarkable performance to date may have been a great thing for the tennis star.

After Bouchard declared Atlanta victorious in Super Bowl LI, a man named John Goehrke tweeted at her asking her to agree to go on a date with him if New England came back and won. We all know what happened to the Falcons’ 28-3 lead, and Bouchard remained true to her word by going on a date with Goehrke to a Brooklyn Nets game.

Fast-forward to this year, and the story is still being written. On Monday, NFL Canada asked Bouchard if she and the same gentleman would like to attend Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis. They accepted the invite.

While the whole thing seems like a PR stunt from NFL Canada and Bouchard, there may be more to it than that. Bouchard and Goehrke have been spotted in public together multiple times since their first date after the Super Bowl. Back in December, TMZ spotted them hanging out together on a beach in Miami. Bouchard sent these tweets at around the same time:

At the very least, it would appear Bouchard and Goehrke have become good friends. Bouchard appeared to be in a romantic relationship at the time Goehrke made the Twitter bet with her, but that may have changed. Goehrke has taught us all a valuable lesson in shooting your shot. The worst thing that can happen is an air-ball.
