New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton has been formally introduced to the Jameis Winston Experience this offseason, and it sounds like he is enjoying the ride.

Slayton was asked at minicamp on Thursday what it has been like to talk with Winston, who is known for having a quirky personality. The receiver let out a big sigh before offering a hilarious description of how his conversations with Winston have gone.

“It’s so hard to describe. Like, how I’m talking right now, he’ll be talking just like this and it’s just the random thoughts that come to his head. They just come out,” Slayton said. “We were talking about, you know, a slant. How did we get to Kentucky Fried Chicken? Just hard lefts.

“I can’t think of an exact example, but that’s the best I can describe it. It’s just random hard lefts, but then he comes right back on topic. … He’s a really fun guy to be around.”

Anyone who has called Winston a teammate knows exactly what Slayton is talking about.

Winston, who signed a 2-year, $8 million deal with then Giants in March, made seven starts for the Cleveland Browns last season. His performance off the field was as unpredictable as his play on it.

Winston finished with 2,121 yards, 13 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions in 2024. He drew more attention for his legendary pregame speeches and surreal postgame quotes than his play on the field.

Slayton has now gotten a first-hand look at Winston’s unique outlook on life, and the veteran quarterback has lived up to the hype.
