Giants make big change to coaching staff
The New York Giants are making a major change to their coaching staff after a disappointing 2023 season.
The Giants are parting ways with defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, according to multiple reports. According to Jordan Ranaan of ESPN, Martindale’s exit is a resignation, and is a result of a poor relationship with head coach Brian Daboll.
Wink Martindale is resigning as defensive coordinator of the Giants, per source. His relationship with Brian Daboll a big part of the divorce.
Martindale should have options elsewhere. The Giants two most recent opponents, the Rams and Eagles, spoke glowingly of his scheme.

The Giants struggled defensively early in the season, though they showed flashes of improvement in the middle of the season. Martindale did not take a ton of blame for it, as he is highly regarded around the NFL. He was widely heralded for his work with the Baltimore Ravens before coming to New York, including a stint as defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021.
Reports emerged earlier in the season suggesting that Martindale and Daboll had a terrible relationship and that one was likely to leave. That was always going to lead to Martindale’s exit, and it took just one day after the end of the season for it to happen. He should easily be able to land a job elsewhere.
