Haason Reddick, Jets reach resolution with holdout

Haason Reddick and the New York Jets have finally come to an agreement, and it is one that will see the star pass-rusher suit up for the team.

Reddick ended his holdout on Sunday after agreeing to an adjusted contract with the Jets, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Reddick will not play in Sunday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers but will report to the Jets on Monday.

Drew Rosenhaus, who was hired by Reddick recently after the 30-year-old parted ways with his previous agent, told Schefter that the Jets have agreed to essentially waive the more than $12 million in fines that Reddick accrued while skipping all of training camp and the first six weeks of the regular season. In return, Reddick has agreed to honor his contract for the remainder of the year.

While the collective bargaining agreement does not allow fines to be waived, the Jets have given Reddick an opportunity to earn back the $12 million through incentives in his restructured deal.

Rosenhaus said the goal is still for Reddick to sign a long-term deal with New York.

The Jets traded a conditional third-round draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Reddick during the offseason. Reddick was set to make $14.25 million in the final year of his contract this season, and he supposedly told the Jets he would not demand a new deal.

Reddick asked to be traded prior to the season, but the Jets said publicly that they had no intention of granting the request. Then last week, the team gave Reddick and his representatives permission to seek a trade.

At least one NFC contender reportedly showed interest in Reddick, but the two-time Pro Bowl linebacker will finally enter the mix in New York now.
