Hue Jackson: Todd Haley will have total control over Browns’ offense
The Cleveland Browns made a big coaching slash this offseason when they brought in Todd Haley, and they have every intention of letting him do things his way in 2018.
While speaking with reporters on Friday, Browns head coach Hue Jackson emphatically stated that Haley will have total control over the team’s offense in 2018.
#Browns HC Hue Jackson opened rookie minicamp practice today watching DBs. Later said new OC Todd Haley has “total autonomy” of the offense, that Haley can’t be expected to call Jackson’s offense, and that the former #Steelers OC “is one of the best in the business.”

That is significant because Jackson, who was an offensive coordinator and assistant throughout his entire career before he became a head coach, called plays for the Browns last season. The high praise signifies that Jackson was on board with giving up playcalling duty and is willing to trust Haley with either Tyrod Taylor or rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield.
While Ben Roethlisberger had plenty of issues with Haley when the coach was with the Steelers, Pittsburgh’s offense thrived in Haley’s six seasons with the team. His track record speaks for itself, so it makes sense that Jackson is going to make an effort to not micromanage him.
