One of the greatest mysteries of the NFL offseason is Aaron Rodgers’ future.
There is still the belief that the 42-year-old quarterback will be running it back with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who appear to be keeping their doors open for another season with Rodgers.
But until something conclusive is reached on that front, Rodgers’ future with the Steelers will remain a guessing game.
Enter a recent report from Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network about a possible fallback option for the Steelers under center.
During a recent appearance on the “Rich Eisen Show,” Pelissero linked the Steelers to another veteran signal-caller.
“Kirk Cousins is the one, and I know they called on him last year, and the Falcons at the time didn’t want to trade him,” Pelissero told Eisen.
“But now Kirk Cousins is free. Cousins potentially could be an option if they pivot away from Aaron Rodgers, which hasn’t happened yet.”
The Steelers are not exactly desperate for a quarterback, but their current options at the position don’t scream success either.
At the moment, they have Mason Rudolph projected as their QB1 in 2026, with Will Howard as their backup.
Cousins isn’t going to add tremendous hype, but he could be the better option over Rudolph and Howard.
A four-time Pro Bowler, Cousins appeared in 10 games (with eight starts) for the Atlanta Falcons in 2025, passing for 1,721 yards and 10 touchdowns against 5 interceptions, while posting a 61.7% completion rate.
