Jalen Carter has been disciplined by the NFL for his actions on Thursday night.
The NFL on Tuesday announced that it has fined Carter $57,222 for spitting on Dak Prescott during the Thursday night game between his Philadelphia Eagles and Prescott’s Dallas Cowboys. Carter had spit on Prescott six seconds into the game, prior to Dallas’ offense taking its first snap. The $57,222 amount is what Carter makes per game, which is how the NFL decided to fine him for that amount.
Carter got ejected from the game and effectively missed the entire contest. The NFL is viewing his ejection as the same thing as a 1-game suspension, which is why Carter’s punishment was limited to the fine. Carter is not appealing the punishment, so he will prepare for Philly’s Week 2 game at the Chiefs on Sunday.
Carter was a first-round pick by the Eagles in 2023 and is playing on his rookie contract. He averages $5.45 million per season on his rookie deal.
The Eagles reportedly agreed with Carter’s representation not to use the suspension to void future guarantees for the defensive lineman’s contract. Carter has played in 16 games in each of his first two seasons in the NFL. He has 10.5 career sacks and made the Pro Bowl last season.
