Jalen Ramsey calls in sick to work, still wants Jaguars to trade him

Jalen Ramsey

Jalen Ramsey has not backed down from his demand that the Jacksonville Jaguars trade him, and the All-Pro cornerback may be planning to stay away from the team until he gets his wish.

Ramsey informed the Jaguars on Sunday night that he will not be able to practice on Monday because he is feeling under the weather, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. There is a chance he won’t practice at all this week because of the apparent illness.

While we would never want to say someone is lying about having a health issue, the timing seems suspect, to say the latest. For what it’s worth, Ramsey told the team he believes he has the flu.

Reports over the weekend indicated Ramsey and the Jaguars are in a stand-off, with the team not wanting to trade him in the wake of Thursday night’s big divisional win over the Tennessee Titans. The AFC South is hardly the strongest division in football, and the Jags likely feel they have a chance to win it with the way rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew has played. Either they don’t want to trade away their best defender when they feel they can contend, or they are simply trying to drive up the price for Ramsey. If it’s the latter, Ramsey isn’t doing himself or the team any favors by not showing up to work.

Jags owner Shad Khan does not want to part ways with Ramsey and is willing to make him the highest-paid cornerback in football, so that is likely the driving force behind Jacksonville trying to keep him. At least one team is said to have made a respectable offer for Ramsey, but the Jaguars turned it away.
