Jay Glazer clarifies comments about Ben Roethlisberger’s fitness

Ben Roethlisberger

Jay Glazer took some shots at Ben Roethlisberger last week over the veteran quarterback’s workout routine, and Big Ben was bothered by the comments. Glazer has already tried to set the record straight once, but he offered even more context on Tuesday.

In his latest mailbag for The Athletic, Glazer said he spoke with Roethlisberger on the phone recently and the Pittsburgh Steelers star stressed the importance of rehabbing from his elbow injury. When Glazer wrote last week that Roethlisberger’s idea of an offseason workout program is “doing one yoga session, playing golf, and drinking some beer,” many took that to mean Big Ben is not talking his rehab seriously. That bothered Roethlisberger, and Glazer said Tuesday that he didn’t mean for it to come off that way.

“The one thing I want to clarify because it wasn’t fair to Ben is I never talked about his commitment to this rehab. He has been committed,” Glazer wrote. “Roethlisberger told me the other day, he has been training his butt off doing his rehab and how important it is to him. He wants to come back better than he was before. This is the first time he’s ever dealt with something like this so he’s thrown himself into this rehab.”

Glazer said he and Roethlisberger “bust each other’s chops a lot,” which is why he made the original comments about Big Ben’s lack of fitness. This is now the second time that Glazer has addressed the remarks since he initially made them, so obviously he wants to make sure the record is straight.

Roethlisberger is never going to be compared to Tom Brady from a health and wellness standpoint, but the 38-year-old has maintained that he is committed to coming back stronger than ever after missing most of last season.
