Jimmy Garoppolo has funny explanation for why torn ACL was ‘blessing in disguise’
We’re only a little more than a year removed from San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffering a torn ACL, ending his 2018 season after three games and setting the stage for the 49ers to go a miserable 4-12.
It all worked out for Garoppolo and the Niners, however, and the quarterback now sees the injury as a “blessing in disguise.” Why? It helped the Niners land the No. 2 pick in last year’s draft, which they used very effectively.
Jimmy Garoppolo calls his ACL tear a “blessing in disguise.”
“We got Bosa out of it. That’s a pretty good trade off, I guess.”

There’s no doubt the added high draft pick helped the 49ers, strengthening the entire defense. That defense has evolved into one of the league’s best, and Bosa has brought some serious attitude to it. Maybe it helped Garoppolo, too — it motivated him, and he’s come back to throw 27 touchdowns in his first full season as a starter. In the end, everything seems to have worked out.
