It’s safe to say the Oakland Raiders’ decision to cut punter Marquette King took many by surprise, but apparently there may have been a reason for it.
Vic Tafur of the Athletic heard that King’s flamboyant personality may have clashed with coach Jon Gruden, who may have given the order to cut King.
There were whispers of King’s personality not clicking with Gruden’s. I should have listened better. Coach didn’t want to spend a lot of money on punter who gets personal fouls. #Raiders

The Raiders saved a bit of cash in cutting King, but not all that much, meaning there was probably more to this than money. King has occasionally drawn flags for silly reasons, which was, perhaps, a non-starter in Gruden’s eyes.
