Mark Sanchez tore ligament in his thumb while working out
Denver Broncos quarterback Mark Sanchez is expected to miss the start of organized team activities after he suffered an injury while working out.
Mike Klis of 9 News in Denver reports that Sanchez tore a ligament in his non-throwing hand last Thursday while exercising in the weight room. He was able to complete the workout but later went to see the training staff when the thumb was bothering him.
Sanchez underwent a surgical procedure on Saturday and is expected to be out roughly a week. There’s no reason to rush him back this early in the offseason, but the injury must not be all that severe if Sanchez will only be sidelined for a week.
Though the Broncos drafted former Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch in the first round, Sanchez is still the favorite to win the starting job based on NFL experience alone. He recently expressed confidence over his place on the depth chart, despite John Elway praising Lynch and hinting that the rookie might not be sitting on the bench for long.
