Matt Forte says he has been ‘playing on one leg’ this year
Matt Forte has had a highly forgettable 2017 campaign, but he thinks that it is more to blame on injuries rather than overall ineffectiveness.
The New York Jets running back said on Thursday that he would like to return to the team next season and believes that he can still produce when healthy.
“When I was healthy and got the opportunities, I think I produced at a decent level,” said Forte, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com. “Since the bye week [this year], I’ve been basically playing on one leg, so that’s been tough. Obviously, that hinders your production level.”
The former Pro Bowler, who turned 32 earlier this month, has rushed for just 381 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games this season. That includes a mere 140 yards and zero touchdowns in the five games since the Jets’ Week 11 bye.
Forte, a 10-year veteran, is still under contract for next season but has no guaranteed money left. Thus, his interest in returning may not be reciprocated by the Jets, especially with how he has criticized them at times this year.
