Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. offered a frightening admission about the hit he took in last Saturday’s game that knocked him out with a concussion.
Pittman admitted he did not even remember the hit from Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee.
“I honestly never saw him coming,” Pittman said Friday, via Stephen Holder of ESPN. “I was diving, I caught it, and then all of a sudden, I woke up and there’s people looking down at me. I was like, ‘Oh, s—, what just happened?”
Pittman felt that the hit was not clean, but was not entirely on board with Kazee’s three-game suspension for it.
“I do think that they were head-hunting, but I don’t think he meant to try to impose a life-changing injury. I don’t think any player has that in them,” Pittman said. “And you never want to see guys lose games and lose that much money. … He has a family, too, and I know that’s a hefty fine.”
Kazee was ejected for the hit, which left Pittman lying motionless on the field (video here). For what it’s worth, one NFL legend agreed with Pittman that a suspension was unwarranted, albeit for very different reasons.
