Report: Mike Singletary inquired about Texas high school coach opening
One of the most prestigious high school football coaching jobs has become vacant, and a former NFL head coach reportedly has shown interest in it.
CBS Dallas Fort Worth’s Bill Jones reported on Twitter Wednesday evening that former San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary inquired about the opening at Southlake Carroll in Texas.
Sources say Southlake Carroll AD Darren Allman told the team in a meeting today that former SF 49ers Head Coach & Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Singletary called to inquire about the Dragons head coaching vacancy.

Southlake Carroll has an opening after the school parted ways with longtime coach Hal Wasson this week. The school has been recognized as having one of the best programs in the country. They had a 49-game winning streak during the mid-2000s and won three mythical national championships during that span. The program boasts notably alumni such as Greg McElroy, Chase Daniel, Garrett Hartley, Scott Chandler and Kris Brown.
Singletary, 59, is from the Houston area and went to Baylor for college. He was a Hall of Fame linebacker for the Chicago Bears and then went on to a coaching career. He went 18-22 over parts of three seasons as head coach of the 49ers. He most recently was a part of Jeff Fisher’s Rams staff in 2016 and is known for his infamous rant.
