Report: NFL overtime rules unlikely to change
Sorry, Clay Matthews, but it doesn’t sound as though the NFL’s overtime rules will be changing anytime soon.
According to a report, major changes to the overtime rules are not on the docket. A source told Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio that while discussion about overtime is always on the agenda for the league meeting, it’s unlikely anything will come of it.
That ought to annoy the Packers, who have now been bounced from the playoffs two straight years in overtime games without ever touching the ball in the extra frame. Matthews said after the team’s most recent loss to Arizona that the league should look at bringing college overtime rules into the NFL. He likely has a point about that, but the league and its owners are slow to change, especially after so recently implementing the new policy.
Of course, perhaps nothing like this happens if the coin flip doesn’t go awry…
