Patrick Mahomes makes outrageous claim about offsides call
Patrick Mahomes got a bit carried away with his criticism of the costly call that went against the Kansas City Chiefs at the end of their loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Mahomes was beyond furious after an offsides penalty on wide receiver Kadarius Toney negated what would have been a go-ahead touchdown. The Chiefs were trailing 20-17 when Mahomes completed a pass to Travis Kelce, who ran for about 10 yards before throwing a lateral to Toney. Toney then ran 25 yards into the end zone. You can see the video of the play here.
The play was called back, leaving the Chiefs with 2-and-15. Mahomes threw three straight incompletions to hand the ball back to the Bills. Mahomes screamed at an official and needed to be held back after the turnover on downs. He also slammed his helmet on the sidelines.
Mahomes had not cooled off much when he took the podium for his postgame press conference. He blasted the official for throwing a flag for a foul that “didn’t affect the play at all.” The star quarterback then made the outrageous claim that the call will negatively impact Kelce’s career.
“It’s just tough. Like I said, man, that’s a Hall of Fame tight end making a Hall of Fame play that won’t be shown because we threw a flag for offensive offsides,” Mahomes said. “So it takes away not only from this game and this season, but from a legendary career that Travis has had. That hurts me because I know how hard he works for it.”

You can understand why Mahomes was upset, but trying to argue that the play will have a negative effect on Kelce’s career is just absurd.
Mahomes was so angry about the call that he even complained to Josh Allen about it when the two quarterbacks met after the game. The Chiefs should really be furious with Toney. Lining up that far offsides is inexcusable.
