Ray Lewis Defies the Aging Process
I have to tell you, I heard Ray Lewis’ comments on TV yesterday, and they’re way more powerful than they appear in writing. That being said, much like the Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Morten Andersons, and Katherine Heigls before him, Ray Lewis thinks he’s only getting better with age.
“It’s incredible, you know. Some people say you go in reverse once you hit the 30 mark, but I think I’m going the other way,” he said.
…
“Most of the time I used to get up at 6 in the morning, but now I’ve moved my training back to the evenings,” he said. “I started averaging 10 hours of sleep a night, and some nights I was getting like 12 to 14 hours.”
…
“Rest is probably the No. 1 thing. It’s really paid off because right now I’m sitting at a place that I don’t think I’ve ever been in my career,” he said. “Where I am right now, it’s scary. I will say that, because now I can see that my best football is definitely ahead of me.”
I’ll say this for the man, as wacked out and crazy as he is, I am jealous. I mean come on, 12-14 hours of sleep!? I’d kill for that. We’re talking elementary school summer break right there. Oh, and not to blatantly question Lewis or anything, but he had 163 tackles, six picks, two forced-fumbles, and a defensive touchdown in 2003. If his best football is ahead of him, what does that mean? 200 tackles? 10 picks? 20 interceptions? I fear for the rest of the league.
