Report: Redskins will make Trent Williams pay fines, won’t give him new deal

Trent Williams

Trent Williams is set to miss his second straight game with the Washington Redskins on Sunday as his holdout continues, and the team has no intention of giving into the All-Pro tackle’s demands.

Williams has accrued $1.2 million in fines and owes Washington $743,000 for a pro-rated portion of his signing bonus, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the team will not forgive the fines if Williams decides to show up. They also reportedly have no plans to sign him to a new contract.

Williams, a seven-time Pro Bowler, is scheduled to make nearly $11 million this season and $12.5 million next year. While he is one of the best left tackles in football, he is 31 and has missed several games due to injuries in recent years. His issues with the Redskins also appear to be about more than just money.

He has not spoken about it publicly, but Williams is said to be at odds with Washington’s medical staff over the way his health scare was handled this offseason. One of his former teammate’s said last week that Williams’ holdout would likely end sooner rather than later, but the fines are piling up.
