New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski says he has no plans to retire despite recently undergoing his third back surgery since 2009.
In a statement he released on Sunday through Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Gronkowski said he is looking forward to rehabbing and getting back onto the field.
“I highly appreciate the support from all my teammates, friends and family and the courage to stay strong,” Gronkowski said. “I am excited to knock this rehab out and get this core extra strong and looking super fresh to get this body back out on the field.”
While some doctors have questioned whether Gronkowski will ever be the same again, the All-Pro is only 27 and is under contract with the Patriots through 2019. There has been some speculation that the Patriots could look to trade Gronk, but a report we shared with you earlier on Sunday indicated that will not be the case.
Gronkowski is never going to shake the injury prone label, and you can understand why. That doesn’t mean he won’t continue his reign of terror on the NFL when healthy again.
