Robert Griffin III to resume starting QB role with Browns

The Cleveland Browns announced on Thursday that Robert Griffin III will start against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14.

In a move that was widely expected after he returned to practice last week, Griffin will be under center for the first time since he suffered a fractured shoulder in Week 1. Browns coach Hue Jackson had said previously that all of the team’s quarterbacks would compete in practice during the bye week, and apparently RG3 showed he is healthy enough to return to action.

With the Browns still in search of their first win of the season, it makes sense that Jackson is turning to Griffin. Cleveland signed RG3 to a two-year contract this past offseason, and the upcoming NFL Draft is not really loaded at the quarterback position. Unless he completely implodes during the final four weeks of the season, Griffin will likely head into training camp next year as the team’s starter.

The Browns seem destined to finish with the worst record in football, but RG3 is going to do his best to help fulfill the promise of one of his teammates. He’ll probably need some luck along the way.
