Russell Wilson: I still have no doubt in the play call

Russell Wilson crying

Russell Wilson does not believe the Seattle Seahawks made the wrong call at the end of Super Bowl XLIX, despite the fact that the play resulted in an interception that sealed a win for the New England Patriots.

When speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Wilson was emphatic that he does not doubt the play call one bit.

“I had no doubt in the play call,” he said, per Terry Blount of ESPN.com. “I still don’t to this day.”

For what it’s worth, Marshawn Lynch also took the high road when asked about the call after Sunday’s game.

Not only did Wilson think the Seahawks made the right call, he also believed Ricardo Lockette was open and that the pass was going to result in Seattle winning back-to-back championships.

“It looked open enough,” Wilson said. “When I threw it, it was, ‘Touchdown. Second Super Bowl ring. Here we go.'”

If only it had worked out that way. Instead, Patriots rookie cornerback Malcolm Butler jumped the route and made one of the most incredible plays in Super Bowl history. Pete Carroll has tried to explain the decision to throw the ball instead of giving it to arguably the best power running back in the NFL, but Seahawks fans don’t want to hear it. That decision will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
