Sean McVay revealed Thursday that Puka Nacua is trending in the wrong direction in his recovery from injury.
The Los Angeles Rams wide receiver reportedly missed practice Thursday due to a lingering hip injury. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it was the second consecutive practice that Nacua has missed.
The news casts serious doubt on Nacua’s availability for the Rams’ Week 3 clash against the Denver Broncos on “Sunday Night Football.” Nacua’s hip injury also forced him to miss multiple team practices last week. He was eventually ruled out for L.A.’s Week 2 matchup against the New York Giants.
McVay was asked about Nacua’s status Thursday on the “Mason & Ireland” radio show. The Rams head coach did not sound optimistic about his star’s chances of suiting up opposite the Broncos.
“We’ll see. He’s not making great progress,” McVay said.
“We’ll love to welcome Puka back with open arms, but if not, I’ve got a ton of confidence in the group that we will go with if he doesn’t go.”
Nacua missed just one game last season due to an ankle injury. He led the league with 129 receptions and ranked second in receiving yards with 1,715 across 16 games. He also tallied 10 receiving touchdowns while playing opposite Davante Adams, who led the NFL with 14 receiving TDs.
