Tom Brady wants to give MVP truck to Malcolm Butler

Malcolm Butler interception

While Tom Brady admits he was surprised by the way Super Bowl XLIX ended, he was not shocked that rookie cornerback Malcolm Butler was the one who made the biggest play of the night.

During his weekly appearance on WEEI’s “Dennis and Callahan Show,” Brady spoke highly of Butler and said the former West Alabama star made outstanding plays in practice all season long.

“Malcolm came up with the play of our season,” Brady said. “A guy like Malcolm who makes that type of instinctive, quick play, that’s one of his strong suits. I don’t think it surprised any of us players, because that’s really what his skill set is. A lot of people didn’t get to see that over the course of the season.

“It comes off as a great play, which it really was, obviously the biggest time of the year. Someone had to make a play. It happened to be Malcolm.”

Brady was named Super Bowl MVP, and he certainly deserved the honor after bringing his team back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter against the best defense in the NFL. However, he said he is looking to find a way to give his MVP prize — a brand new Chevy truck — to Butler.

“I would love to give him the truck,” Brady said. “I would love to do that. I’m going to figure out how to make that work.”

By catching one football, Butler transformed himself from undrafted rookie free agent into a household name. Those of us who have seen the play know he deserves every second of praise and as many new Chevy pickups as his teammates want to give him.
