Ty Montgomery fumbled away the Green Bay Packers’ chances of a comeback win against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
The Rams had kicked a field goal to go up 29-27 and were kicking off with 2:05 remaining. That seemed like plenty of time — probably too much time — for Aaron Rodgers, who almost assuredly would have led a game-winning drive.
Instead, Montgomery took a kick out of the end zone and lost a fumble, giving the Rams the ball back at the Green Bay 21.
The Rams ran the ball three times, converting a first down on Todd Gurley’s 3rd-down run. Gurley went down in the field of play instead of scoring a touchdown so that the Rams could kneel out the clock on a 29-27 win.
Rodgers never even got a shot to lead a comeback drive because of the fumble. He was not happy after the turnover.

Montgomery’s fumble also helped bail out Sean McVay for some conservative playcalling towards the end of the game that was aimed at killing the clock but still left the Packers plenty of time for a potential comeback. What a blunder.
