Report: Tyrique Stevenson had harsh reaction to being demoted by Bears

Tyrique Stevenson points

The Chicago Bears have reportedly demoted Tyrique Stevenson for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals because of his costly blunder in Week 8, and it sounds like the cornerback was angry over the decision.

Stevenson has started every game for the Bears this season. Head coach Matt Eberflus has decided that the second-year player will begin Sunday’s game on the bench, according to multiple reports. The move was made in response to Stevenson taunting fans in the middle of Jayden Daniels’ miraculous Hail Mary touchdown that gave the Washington Commanders a walk-off win over Chicago last week.

On FOX’s NFL pregame show Sunday, Jay Glazer said Stevenson “pulled himself out of practice” on Wednesday when the former second-round pick was informed he would not be starting in Week 9. Glazer added that Stevenson’s reaction “didn’t exactly go over great inside the locker room.”

Stevenson took to social media to apologize after his embarrassing mistake. He also addressed the team and expressed remorse privately. It is possible Stevenson felt he did enough to hold himself accountable.

The Bears fell to 4-3 with the loss to Washington. They have gotten off to a strong start this season and obviously should be 5-2.
