JJ Spaun was in contention entering the final round of the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., on Sunday, but he caught a horrendous break early on.
Spaun entered Sunday just one shot off the lead at 3-under par. He began his final round with a bogey but looked like he was going to bounce back quickly. After hitting a perfect drive on the par-4 2nd hole, Spaun was left with a 93-yard approach shot.
Spaun hit a perfect wedge shot that looked like it was going check up near the hole, but it hit the flagstick and spun backwards. The ball rolled all the way off the front of the green, leaving Spaun with a difficult chip shot.
You gotta be kidding! 😩

The break proved to be costly, as Spaun could not get up and down to save par. Spaun also bogeyed three of the next four holes, so it is fair to wonder if the unfortunate bounce shook his confidence.
Spaun came close to winning The Players Championship earlier this season, but he made a major mistake during his three-hole playoff against Rory McIlroy.
The brutal break at Oakmont added to what has been a tough year for Spaun, who has played a lot of good golf but has no wins to show for it.
