It didn’t take very long for Jordan Spieth to unleash some of his notorious frustration at the U.S. Open, as the two-time major champion was furious after one of his shots spun off the green and into a bunker.
Spieth hit what looked like a beautiful shot on the par-4 17th at Oakmont, but it had too much spin to hang on. He was left in disbelief, yelling “you’ve got to be kidding me!” and tossing his club in frustration.
Another camera angle provided better audio of what Spieth said:
“How is that in the bunker?” he yelled. “That is such crap!”
The conditions at Oakmont are supposed to be some of the most difficult in the history of the U.S. Open. Heck, one golfer’s caddy already suffered a pretty serious injury during a practice round. You’ll often hear guys say a course wasn’t playing very fair if there aren’t many low scores shot. Don’t be surprised if Spieth is leading that charge after the first round.
